Dear Correctional Colleague

CEA-Ohio is proud to host the Annual Fall Conference and Training Event from September 11th-13th, 2017, at the Holiday Inn - French Quarter 10630 Fremont Pike, Perrysburg, Ohio 43551. The committee has been busy planning workshops, speakers, and activities to make this year's theme, "Correctional Education: A New Hope" one that each person will find informative and enjoyable. A variety of workshops will be offered which will open doors for sharing and networking. Ashland University will offer credit for those participating in their CEU program.

One highlight of the conference will be the announcement of this year's Teacher of the Year. A gala event is planned to celebrate this year's choice featuring food, music and networking with colleagues. Please come join the festivities and the celebration.

All room rates are $99.88. The hotel requires a credit card number if you want your reservation guaranteed. In order to book your room call 419-874-3111. To guarantee the conference rate you must make reservations by 8/11/17.

For your convenience you can now retrieve conference information including registration forms through this site. If you prefer your packet by mail, please call 740-845-3240 to make your request.

We encourage everyone to make plans to join us for what promises to be an exciting and worthwhile event. If you have any questions, please email me at Jeanette.woodruff@odrc.state.oh.us.

We are looking forward to seeing you at the Holiday Inn – French Quarter in Perrysburg.

Frequently Asked Questions

We are always looking for great ideas to provide relevant information for our members. We appreciate the suggestions that many of you have provided to us in the past. Please continue submitting your suggestions to any CEA-O committee member with specific contact information of new speakers, presenters or workshop ideas. There will also be a call for papers posted on the website typically in June that you may print off.
Asking presenters to provide projectors and some of their own AV equipment reduces the amount of money that CEA-O ultimately pays to the hotel and in turn keeps the registration cost reasonable and prevents funds from being pulled away from other conference budgets. If CEA-O were to supply these items the majority of the equipment would have to be rented from the hotel as CEA-O does not keep a "stock-pile" of projectors and other AV equipment in storage?
Room rates are very difficult to negotiate. Negotiating further is not always possible. Hotels typically have already discounted their rates to meet the state rate that has been established for their region.
This question is very difficult to answer as there are many criteria that are taken into consideration when making this decision. The committee begins looking for training sites a year in advance, and we look at several “options” year to year. Here are a few examples we take into consideration when selecting a hotel. We avoid hotels that will not offer a state rate for rooms because this ultimately causes more out of pocket expenses to attendees. We take in consideration how many state facilities are located in the area. When we find a site that receives consistently good reviews from attendees and the site continues to provide everything we need the question arises, “Why would we not return again and again?”

The way we are currently handling door prizes was a suggestion made on the CEA-O evaluation sheets and implemented in 2010. Thanks for the input as it helps us to always improve the CEA-O Training!
